Dr. Philipp Lorenz-Spreen is a research scientist based in Berlin, Germany.
His research focuses on sociophysics and decision making online, that is finding the patterns and mechanisms of collective behavior especially on social media. Building on these insights, in his more applied research she aims to find ways that empower democratic discourse in a networked society through improving online environments by making them more transparent and providing meaningful context.
Prior to his current work with both the Prosocial Design Network and the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, he did his PhD at the Berlin Institute of Technology on empirical methods and theoretical models to describe the dynamics of collective attention from online data sets. Before that, at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, he studied physics with a focus on systems biophysics.
